Position: Registered Nurse
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates, and documents nursing care of patients in accordance with organizational policies and professional nursing practice standards, utilizing the framework for professional nursing practice and development.
- Identifies patient care requirements by establishing rapport with patients and individuals who understand the care requirements.
- Ensures quality of care by adhering to therapeutic standards, measuring health outcomes against patient care goals and standards, and making or recommending necessary adjustments according to hospital and nursing division philosophies.
- Establishes a compassionate environment by providing emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, friends, and families.
- Maintains accurate and detailed reports and records.
- Monitors, records, and reports symptoms and changes in patients’ conditions.
- Documents patients’ medical and clinical information and health assessments in the Health Information System (HIS).
- Administers medications and intravenous fluids according to hospital policy.
- Monitors all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.
- Prepares patients for and assists with examinations and treatments.
- Provides comprehensive, safe, and effective evidence-based nursing care to achieve identified health outcomes.
- Recognizes and upholds the rights of all patients accessing health services and advocates on their behalf while maintaining cultural sensitivity.
- Prepares rooms, sterile instruments, equipment, and supplies, ensuring that stock is maintained.
- Utilizes specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skills to assess data, plan, provide, and evaluate care appropriate to the physical and developmental age of assigned pediatric patients.
- Modifies patient treatment plans based on patients’ responses and conditions.
- Provides high-level communication skills, including interpersonal, verbal, written, and computer communication, and works cohesively with patients, families, and other healthcare providers as an active member of the multidisciplinary team.
- Plans and evaluates nursing care in consultation with the multidisciplinary healthcare team, patients, and families using effective interpersonal communication.
- Promotes patients’ independence by establishing care goals and teaching patients, families, and friends to understand conditions, medications, and self-care skills.
- Consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
- Maintains cooperative relationships among healthcare teams by communicating information, responding to requests, building rapport, and participating in team problem-solving.
- Refers and coordinates patients’ discharge arrangements with the case manager according to DSFHR’s discharge policy.
- Provides and facilitates appropriate training and ongoing support to students and less experienced staff within the delegated scope of practice as required.
- Directs and supervises less-skilled nursing/healthcare personnel, students, and interns, ensuring proper nursing care is provided.
- Establishes partnerships with patients, families, support systems, and other providers utilizing in-person and electronic communications to achieve shared goals of delivering the health needs of the patient and family.
- Promotes healing and health by building relationships with the patient, both interpersonally and through verbal and nonverbal communication.
- Contributes to research and development programs within the hospital and maintains an awareness of evidence-based practice.
- Identifies areas for clinical research and recognizes its value in contributing to nursing care delivery.
- Assists in promoting nursing practice in line with relevant research.
- Demonstrates or seeks to understand the research process and terminology, along with an in-depth knowledge of the specialty under investigation.
- Plays a key role as a patient advocate, ensuring patients’ safety and protection while providing support throughout the research study.
- Demonstrates a willingness to improve research skills, including management, organizational skills, teaching, mentoring, communication, and IT.
- Collaborates and cooperates with other researchers and multidisciplinary team members for successful research outcomes.
- Coordinates and complies with Quality Improvement (QI) and infection control programs, advising specified personnel about necessary precautions.
- Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
- Ensures a safe and secure environment for patients, families, and visitors using a contemporary quality and risk management framework.
- Ensures paramount responsibility for the safety of self and others in daily duties, including assessment, reporting, and managing health and safety risks in the workplace.
- Performs other QI responsibilities as delegated by the Nurse Manager.
- Instructs individuals, families, and other groups on health education, disease prevention, and health improvement programs.
- Contributes to setting and monitoring measurable standards of care and is accountable for maintaining those standards.
- Maintains awareness of international professional and local quality issues relevant to the delivery of nursing services, such as Clinical Governance.
